This is just an possible observation on my part but maybe they put the cheaper buttstock on because quite a few shooters customize their modern sporting rifles with the buttstock that they prefer. By putting on an economy stock going out the door, they keep the initial price lower so that the tranistion to the optional stock won't be as costly. Look at all the aftermarket components for the 10/22. A lot of people buy the stock/out the door 10/22 and then proceed to sell the factory barrel, factory trigger group, factory stock, etc. on the internet. They then take that money and proceed to heavily customize the receiver with custom aftermarket stocks, custom bull barrels, custom trigger groups, custom sights/scopes, etc. that they want on THEIR CUSTOMIZED 10/22.

Two things here. It would be nice if Ruger sold a 10/22 action only, with or without the bolt and trigger.

You may be right about Ruger putting a lower cost buttstock on the Sr762, but i would guess that the reason is lower unit cost and a higher profit margin.

We had a few of these show up yesterday and sold them for $1599. Ruger did a great job on this one and kept the price super competitive.

HMMMMM! That $1599 price tag shoots some pretty big holes in the $2195.00/$2200 mantra that has been shouted out by those who like other makes of 7.62x51 rifles or just flat don't like Ruger.
