I kept a few catalogs from FAC "Guns n Stuff" from 2003-2004 era. I feel like I could buy one of every surplus rifle in that magazine for the cost of a junk k98 today. I can post pics later but it goes something like this...

91/30 $70
M44 $ 60
yugo M48 $72
steyr M95 new/refurb in wrap $84
K98 $180
M96 swede $180
K98 + 91/30 combo $280
91/30 sniper $424
I thought ALL 91/30's we're "snipers"...

I too fart dust...I remember 29.00 SKS's, and my buddy recalls a long line at the gun show where you paid your 50 bucks and you got the next AK47 in the crate, NO HAND PICKING! He, like me, is also prehistoric.

I wish I’d realized how easy it is to build an AK rifle. I would have bought many a complete parts kit.

FAL parts kits were pretty cheap, too. Then the BATFE decided to mess with imported receivers and the barrels in parts kit. Didn’t really change anything other than make putting a rifle together more expensive.
