If your going thru Tyler, they have the Caldwell zoo, free admission and all Tx native critters.. There's also a KILLER BBQ restaurant by the tracks that will not disappoint, But I forgot the name, strip mall behind it..

I lived in Tyler 15 years ago or so. The Zoo is a very nice one, especially considering the size of the city!

If you're coming down 35, forget that Texas BBQ nonsense and stop at Smokin Joes in Davis or Trails End in Wynnewood. Smokin Joes is my favorite. Then grab a fried pie at Arbuckle Fried Pies.

I ate at Smokin Joe's last Friday, it was purty good!

Smokin Joe's is pretty good... It's a lot better with Head Country sauce on it lol

Dealey Plaza! -- if you avoid the museum the only cost is parking -- You can stand at the grassy knoll; you can stand where Abraham Zapruder stood; there was an "X" in the road (shows where frame 332 of the Zapruder film was taken, you can judge the distance from the sixth floor).

Down the block 2 streets north and 2 streets east is the Y. O. Steakhouse: (excellent lunch)

One of the largest selection of Cowboy boot is across the street from the steakhouse; Wild Bill's Western Store:

I you ever have the chance to visit Fredericksburg, Tx about 80 miles west of Austin is the National Museum of the Pacific War:

Excellent museum, they have one of the only mini subs that attacked Pearl Harbor, they also had a watertight door from the USS. Arizona;
it is where Chester Nimitz spent his early childhood.

Have a safe trip !!!!!

If you have a car that handles or bike go to Kerrville and run the Twisted Sisters. I go down there once a year for the Fiat Twisted Sister run. It is like an autocross that last all day.

Who actually shot JFK? I have visited Dealey Plaza. Where did the kill shot actually come from? I have watched the Zapuder film over and over.

We've narrowed down the trip.
Leave Friday morning, head south to possibly Nacogdoches and see east Texas. Maybe some scenic drives and sightseeing then stay the night somewhere in the area.
Head to my brother's home in Cypress and stay Saturday night.
Sunday morning moving on to San Antonio where I booked 2 nights at the Crockett Hotel next to the Alamo.
Tuesday morning head to Austin and stay the night, then Waco and head home Wednesday.

We plan to try several triple D eateries and see the sights in San Antonio. The drive down on Friday and the day in Austin are still open to suggestions.
