An engineer who used to work in our building retired like 4 years ago and moved to Belize with his wife . . . not sure what it costs to live there though.
I have a friend in McAllen, TX who was plantain and cocoa bean producer for 20+ years in Ecuador. Almost 2k acres worth. About 10 years ago he sold it all for a fraction of it's value, and fled the socialism that was taking over and ruining everything. He went back to visit not long ago and it was not good he said.
That's disappointing. Wasn't aware Ecuador was falling victim to the same things that seem to be sweeping the world. Socialist BS is spreading... and the US is leading at the forefront.
I thought you had a friend in Mexico and had been there and it was supposed to be all great.

I took over his place when he passed ( that's how I got here) .with this becoming a more touristy area prices are rising and the locals seem to be getting their fill of gringos.
I know it's not South America, but personally I'm thinking Monaco. I hear it's really expensive to live there, but I still have some extra ammo I can sell and probably get enough to get by a couple of years. 
I heard Haiti has at least one open residence, with recently upgraded security.
