Well things in Mexico aren't bad but not as good as I thought it would be. I'm thinking about Ecuador anybody have any thoughts about low cost places for American expats?
Is being able to legally carry a gun a concern?

Just out of curiosity, which part of Mexico are you in?

I have a friend in McAllen, TX who was plantain and cocoa bean producer for 20+ years in Ecuador. Almost 2k acres worth. About 10 years ago he sold it all for a fraction of it's value, and fled the socialism that was taking over and ruining everything. He went back to visit not long ago and it was not good he said.
Ecuador went through some political changes in 2018, things are much better there now ... They even use the U.S. dollar as standard........ I'm leaning towards Nicaragua

Cuenca, Ecuador was on my short list should the need arise. Their gun laws aren't any more favorable than Mexico's last I checked though. Also on the list were Belize, Costa Rica and Panama, though CR and Panama have had rising costs (again, last I checked).

The best one for low corruption (least corrupt in the lower Americas and a couple of points above us), favorable gun laws and low cost is Uruguay. It's primarily cattle country and beef is their #1 export. The biggest downsides are distance from the US, less English spoken and while the climate is temperate, it can be windy. Here are some links if you want to look at it.

Maybe a silly question, but how do you protect yourself in the countries that are south of the US if they have gun restrictions? I've thought about Alaska and you could ship your guns there via an FFL. Personally, I'd send everything but the receivers with serial number ahead and have the receivers sent by an FFL.

Too cold in Alaska for my old crippled ass. I rely on the good will of my fellow man and the forbearance of reptiles
