As I stated, could not read the article, OP just said several against one, that is what I posted from. OK SYG law says you have know duty to retreat in any lawful place, and can resist with reasonable force. That is to say that you cannot shoot someone for calling you a name, or even punching you. There has to be a fear of serious bodily injury, or death. Disparity of force is the defining factor. Disparity can be shown if you are medically limited versus your attacker, for example an elderly person in a walker against a 20 something agressor, a man as the agressor to a woman, or several combatants against a single victim. Basic common sense. No you don't fire into a crowd of kids, if you are in fear, it is identified. As Rusty said, first order of business is stay alive. Lawyers are great for looking for loopholes and slanting the circumstances to promote their clients view. Personally, I have seen more disinformation posted from "what the lawyer in my CCW class" said than anything else. They always seem to conflict. They are blamed from "If you pull the gun, you have to kill them", to "You can't find the words disparity of force, so don't shoot anyone until they shoot first" mentality. I really have an issue with people focusing on when we can shoot, rather than weighing the implications of every round that leaves the gun. Killing or shooting someone should always be a last resort, and a first reaction of when your life is threatened.
