I usually have a thermometer hanging on the porch where I can check it through the front door window. It's a plastic unit around 4" diameter and mounts on an aluminum bracket. A bird (martin?) started roosting on it and pooping right where the porch meets the sidewalk. I had bought a couple of rubber snakes a while back as a nesting deterrent (hopefully). So I wrapped the small one around the thermometer. The bird wound up roosting on the rubber snake, and pooping down the front of the thermometer (the poop still landed where we walk). Not sure whether he's too dumb to know what a snake is, or is smart enough to know it's not real. So I outsmarted the little rascal (ha! more or less) and removed the thermometer. But now I don't have it to check outside temps. :hithead: My plan is to glue some thumb-tacks on top before I put it back. I don't want to shoot the little guy (or even drive him away), because he's pretty much wiped out all the wasps and yellowjackets around the house. :drunk2:
