If memory serves me, I believe you need a minimum muzzle end diameter of 0.70"-0.75" for a proper shoulder to threaded a muzzle brake. If you have calipers you can measure it.

There are "clamp-on" brakes out there you can find through Google that have good reviews but I have no experience with them or know of anyone who has.

Savage prefit barrels

I would look at a clamp on brake first before buying a prefit barrel. Depending on barrel contour of a prefit, you may need to open you barrel channel on the stock or possibly purchase a different stock.

I like the reviews on the Witt Clamp-on, I think I’m going to order one. They look awesome and at $100, would be cheaper than buying a new barrel. If they are as good as reviewed, it’s a no brainer for my situation. Thank you for giving me the link!

According to his measurements, the 300WM measures about .556, the 6.5 measures .81. these would be approximates based off of his measurements. According to JECustoms:
.308 bore needs .648 barrel diameter minimum. .264 bore needs .604 barrel diameter
