My buddy has a hard tri fold cover and loves it. Had it installed in Norman off Main st. I've never owned one.
I wish I knew someone that had one. I’d like to get the skinny on them.

What I’ve got works fine for me, but it’s soft vinyl. Just like the top on my MG Midget back in the day, a dull pocket knife will slice her wide open, so I don’t generally lock the gate. Unless what’s under it cost more than the cover.

I think the hard covers are a lot more secure.

jakeman---Sorry I said hard but it is not correct material you call it. It's like a soft vinyl over a hard styrofoam type stuff. I'll ask him more questions later next week when he gets back from vacay.

I have the Bakflip MX4 on my truck and I love it. No water gets in, and if something does get under the seals on the bed rails it tracked through drains in the rail. Dust is an issue on country road, but that is a function of how the tailgate seals to the bed and not due to the cover.

So following majority advice on bed liners, the wife and I stopped at the Linex place on Kelly in Edmond, which is now Bullet liner. While talking to the guy, the wife saw tonneau covers. She wants one.

I have always had shells never tonneau covers. So school me please.

We are considering semi solid roll up versus fold up. Pros and cons? Types of material? Do these things leak water or dust?

Brands/features prefered? Brands/features to avoid?
Here is my thoughts. I have had hard covers years ago , had rollup basically just tarp, (no support in middle), fold up, and now aluminum rollup which I love. Easy to rollup, quick process, can’t cut through with a knife and as waterproof as any.
it also will lock if you have a tailgate that locks
Pic attached. Best all round have owned for me

When I was young and started working it was recommended that I put money away for retirement. So I did. I am now am 73 and retired. I have a fixed income. I got good health insurance and long term care insurance with retirement, and boughtprepaid funeral plan. All sacrifices I made in my working years, including used trucks and blue tarps.

So I have this money I saved for retirement and nobody told what me what do with it when I got here. I guess it's to buy new pickups. tonneau covers and bed liners. As far as the kids inheritance-well they can have whatever is left-in the meantime I am going to enjoy my life.

The kids can save in their own 401K. I told them too.

I have a Leer Fiberglass hard Tonneau on my Ram 2500. IT works well makes the truck look fantastic but in the end i wish I would have gone with the Full Leer/Snugtop shell. Cab High model. THey do look great and have more utility than the Tonneau I have. What is your wife wanting in a cover? What use in particular?
Yeap, I want a camper shell myself. Can’t stomach the price for new, and I can’t ever find the right one for my truck used.

I’m going to offer my bastard solution. If you don’t need a ton of storage space why not bolt a small ridged job box to the floor? More secure and you keep most of the bed available?
I’ve done this, it’s great. I painted it to match the truck (sorta) and bolted it down. Now I can attach antennas and stuff to it, and it allows me more tie down points. I just have a 36” knaack, and I can fit my axe, extensive amounts of recovery gear, tools, first aid bag, air compressor, random crap, and still have a little space to stick some extra stuff like a small tent when I’m going camping. I don’t get any water in there too.
