^^THIS^^ I'm already getting sick of people all over the place saying that it should be REQUIRED for all schools to have shelters or safe rooms, implying that older building be retro-fitted to have them. Problem is that once something is required by the state or federal govt. school districts will have to follow it. Budgets are too thin already. I'm all for FUTURE building codes that require safe rooms or shelters but retro-fitting thousands of schools across the state would be a huge task and require (don't forget that large schools have student bodies well over 1k) insanely huge safe rooms. I'm all for individual districts to hold bond elections to pay for these things. I would gladly shell out a couple of bucks a year to know that my kids chances were a little better than now. This forum, above most others, should understand that tragedies do not get solved by knee jerk reactions.
