D.C. political leadership wanted tens of thousands of tough soldiers to protect them from hostile protestors....a few thousand I can understand but 25 thousand and asking for more says something about the irrational level of fear that was consuming them.
And in the middle of it they began to fear the solders themselves demanding that they be vetted for their beliefs.

Instead of our elected leadership being tough, the whole picture is more about cowering. Something tells me the capitol will stay militarized and our political leaders soft.

If we tried to bring back the draft (actually go into the military, not some kind of Politically Correct "social service corps" for instance), the little dustups we saw in American cities last year would be nothing compared to what we would see.
Mamas would be out there marching and looting and burning with their draft-eligible kids (very few adult men would be protesting because so many kids today don't know who their daddies are).
Draft their fat butts too!

This whole hostile protesters thing really is stupid. If they had been truly hostile (i.e. armed and ready to use true force, not just bum rushing and mostly yelling at unprepared & hobbled police) there would be a crap ton of special/emergency elections and governor appointments going on across the country right now, vice a bunch of congresscritter having to change their depends earlier in the day than already planned. Sad thing is all it did was scare them, they still either did not get the message, or (more than likely) just don't give a flying F####!

Hey hey now, I eat lots of poached eggs and toast!

I came here to say this. It perfectly sums up why we see what we are seeing, and also describes where we are as a society. Hard times do not come to us easily now, which causes us to become complacent and lazy.
I have been screaming this for years. Apathy has killed this nation.

First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a socialist.

Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out— because I was not a trade unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

Well, considering the lying the United States has done in the past in order to justify getting our young people killed overseas, I can't say I would blame them.

They'd be right to not want to go, but for all the wrong reasons, just like the dirtbag lice-infested dope-smoking hippies of the 1960s.

When I was a kid, I did a lot of hay hauling, house framing and roofing, concrete dragging, etc. I never weighed more than 175 lbs and played center on the offensive line. I figure I was as tough as most.

Now I've got a nice office job and it's great in a lot of ways, but it does bother me how soft I've gotten. Couple of times a year I head up to Pawnee to push myself a little bit and make sure I haven't become a complete pansy. Saturday I'll drag my gear about 7 miles through the rain and the mud as fast as I can. I'm soft enough that it'll bother me more than it should, but I'm at least still tough enough to get off my rear and get it done!
