The news is nothing more than “clickbait”. It’s all structured like it. Even time essential “emergency” information. Pay attention to the storm season regular broadcast interruptions. They’ll ruin an hour or three of prime time tv because a town 30 miles east of Chickasha is likely to get hail and there’s some cloud rotation at 1000ft up. It’s all hype and scare tactics. Drama sells. There’s still advertising breaks though, and they’re extremely pricey. Every new broadcast, whether it’s the 9am traffic report, or the “tornado” coverage, is left off with a cliffhanger so you don’t change the channel during the commercials, or so that you remember to tune in at dinner. “Lifesaving tips to keep you and your family safe” sounds like something you’ll watch, as opposed to “tune in at 7pm where we teach you how to wear mittens and scrape your windshield”.

with social media the news has a lot of competition. I want to say that over half of people say they get their news from social media (just as bad if not worse in my opinion). That means the news has to step their game up to get you to watch. Which turns it all into opinionated, overly dramatic, barely factual theater meant to keep the ad revenue coming in.

I think the local channels do it to try and sound folksy, we're all family, etc.
Stuff like 'turn on your wipers on the way to work, it's raining out there', 'keep both hands on the wheel cause the wind is really blowin' today'.

Think of it as advice, not telling you how to live. Some of you people are awful sensitive.
Think of it as a public service instead of a nanny. I appreciated the weather man reminding me to have the school kids wear coats tomorrow.
It must be nice to be a weather man, be wrong half of the time and still keep your job.

Advice is something asked for about something you need insight or teaching or just another view. . Telling me to wear gloves when it is cold is .... a waste of time that would be better used letting me know what is going on in the middle east or China .... You know news!! But we get little Suzy homemaker showing us how to make cornballs, or some cute little girl telling me to wear layers cause it is going to be cold!! Oh yes , lets not forget if there is a cloud in southwest Oklahoma we need to figure out where or safe place is and ensure our batteries are fresh!!
I mean come on man, I remember last year when it snapped off nasty cold.... we had to wear layers..... It was less than a year ago , I remember!!
I also remember when it is hot outside, I wear loose fitting light colored clothing and drink me some high quality H2O................:rollingla
