Carpenter ants loooooove blackjacks because they can almost completely hollow one out and have it still be strong enough to stand. Next stop after the trees is your house, so you want to get rid of them post haste.
Thanks. I’ll spray them with my poison today. I’ve had termites so I definitely don’t want anything else. I have about a million blackjacks so hopefully if anymore show up they will stay to the trees.

They like walnut trees better than blackjack.
Strong doses of Tempo (over 1 oz per gallon) is the answer. The residual will last over two weeks even if rained on.
My walnuts and blackjacks got treated Friday. Zero sign of carpenter ants today.
I did find a colony on a hackberry tree as well. It got treated too.

We got some firewood from a friend in the tree business back around '90-ish (DFW area) that had a few carpenter ants in it. Center of the wood (oak IIRC) was pretty much black where they hollowed it out.

Apparently we killed 'em all, haven't seen any since.
