Has nothing to do with a state or shipping to an FFL. Can’t buy a gun when under indictment- at least until the Supreme Court rules on the case out of Texas.

He's not in his home state. A 4473 isn't required until it's shipped to his home state and he wants to take possession. Only then will the indictment be an issue.

Edit: He could also buy it as a gift for someone out of state and have it shipped to a dealer for pickup by the person to whom it was gifted.

There are scenarios where he could buy the gun. There's just not one where he takes possession of it...at least for now. Buying and possessing are not the same thing.

this was my first thought. Trump will have armed security till the day he dies. Not like he needs a Glock. Honestly, I don’t this this was a publicity stunt. He’s a spontaneous person. I bet he was scheduled to go to the gun shop and do a meet and greet. Then someone started showing him that Glock and he said “hell, I’ll buy one”. But I’m biased, I actually like really awesome presidents aka Trump
