I'm not sure the wild turkeys around my place can fly very well, either. My property is heavily wooded, and one evening several years ago some turkeys roosted in the trees near my house. As I walked around, I startled some of them, which led to a very comical sounding "flap, flap, flap, THUMP, flap, flap, THUMP, flap, flap, THUMP" as they tried to fly, bouncing off the trunks of the very large oaks in the process...

When a turkey is sleeping on the roost or almost asleep it does not function well.
Some people would rig up pvc pipes with a hook on the end of it and reach up into the trees and pull the birds down and stick them into a gunny sack.
You can get all the birds from the tree it's like they are lethargic.

Guinea's will fall to the ground when startled during a sleep also.

I came home from Missouri after the 4th of July with some ridiculous loud fire crackers.
12 gauge shotgun loud.
Buddy set one off at 9PM in his back yard and then heard thump thump thump thump.

His Guineas were dropping out of the tree and onto his metal car port.
Too funny.
