Turnpike Toll Increases

In Texas- when each road is paid for the toll stops- I-30 between Dallas and Ft Worth was a turnpike in the 80's when I worked there some. When I move there in 1998 the toll had ended. I think Oklahoma was set up that way, but they wormed around and made it as long as any turnpike still has debt, all tolls continue- they just keep building more turnpikes, so they never get paid for. Does this stop any incentive to build like I-40 or I-35 was built, without a toll? There is a lot of conversation on the Lee Matthews show, KTOK 5-8 weekdays about how crooked the Turnpike Authority is.

On the attached article, it states an increase of 15%. Their example was Tulsa to OKC would increase from $4.50 to $5.40 that’s a 90 cent increase. A 15% increase is actually 67.5 cents.

If the OTA can’t calculate what 15% of $4.50 is, how can we trust them with 8 Billion dollars?

I seem to remember early in our illustrious governor’s career him talking about a 2 billion dollar excess in our state’s budget and how we should have a significant tax cut.

Since then I wouldn’t be surprised if our budget hasn’t quadrupled or even more.

Yeah we need more taxes.

Just heard on the news another bill to eliminate Oklahoma income tax has been filed.

I guess if any of you are actually tired of the wasteful spending of your hard earned money you could encourage your legislators to support and approve the bill.

But who really wants less waste?

Was living in North Dallas when they opened the Bush turnpike and motorcycles would get close to the cameras then do a wheelie so the tag couldn't be read. Crazy **** to see a motorcycle pass you at 70+ on 1 wheel!

That’s definitely something I wouldn’t want to do!
Pretty common to see motorcycles go to the shoulder in those plate pay areas until I saw the new stations on 412 with the barriers. Guess they caught on.

I've only lived in OK for 20 years, but doesn't the story go, once these turnpikes were paid for they'd be free?

Yip but they make sure we never pay them off, turnpikes are a ripoff

If the state income tax goes away, the other taxes will go up to make up for it. The powers that be will not take a "pay cut" just my $.02

That’s good because it appears most Okies want to pay more taxes.

If I knew there was a guarantee of the income tax going away I would take more sales tax or turnpikes and here is why , those are taxes I CAN avoid paying. avoid paying the income tax and men will at some point show up at your door with guns to arrest or kill you.

Same for property taxes ... you really don't own anything when you pay for your home you just become a long term renter to the county you live in. Don't pay em and you'll be homeless


There isn't an opt out for income taxes or property taxes and that is inherently evil
