Cheaper to buy a new slide.

That's a job for an engraver and they don't come cheap. Rout out the affected areas. Install a decorative plate into the recess. Engrave something else.

I had my initials engraved on a handgun and later regretted it. Nearly impossible to fix except for the above remedy. Sold it.

It'd be cheaper for you to just change your name to Loretta.

Slides can be had cheap on Brownell's, but the flats can be sanded down depending on depth, and much cheaper than the slide work, actually never heard of the method you mention. Slide lightening and cutouts if he wants a race gun, or just mill that area out, leaving it as is (after refinishing of course) if you want it to look like a zev race gun, or polymer80 like gun
