Just before I retired in January of 2021,,, I decided to treat myself with a fine new rifle,,, A gift to myself after 21 years of employment at my job. After a lot of waffling back and forth from one brand to another,,, I finally decided on a CZ-457 Varmint AT-1,,, With a 24" barrel. My desire was to shoot at long distances,,, Specifically from 100 to 200 yards,,, And maybe out to 300. I mounted a Vortex Diamondback 4-16x44 scope,,, On a DIProducts 25 MOA rail. I also mounted a Caldwell bi-pod on her,,, But the rifle was too heavy for it,,, There was a lot of wiggle. I just received a Jinse heavy duty bi-pod from Amazon,,, I have it mounted and the fit is very acceptable,,, There's no wiggle in it at all. So this is (I hope) the final version of my rifle,,, She's a veritable Brown Bear of a rifle,,, So I named her Ursula. Due to many factors,,, Not the least of them laziness, cancer surgery, and winter weather,,, I haven't given Ursula the attention that a rifle of her heritage and status deserves. But now that I'm recovering from the surgery nicely,,, As soon as Oklahoma weather permits,,, I'm off to the 200 yard range. Here she is in what I hope is her final iteration,,, I like prone shooting so I purchased a very nice extra wide padded shooting mat,,, Come the Spring I'm going to be spending a lot of time at the range,,, Shooting paper silhouette targets at 50, 100, 150, & 200 yards. Just before I went in for my surgery,,, I did manage to hit the Ram at 200 yards,,, It took me 19 rounds to do it but the ram was dead. Hopefully I'll get more proficient,,, As Ursula and I get to know each other better. Aarond . Ursula is a feminine given name in several languages,,, The name is derived from a diminutive of the Latin ursa, which means "bear". .
