Crap they all make ammo.
I've got RCBS, Hornady, Lee, and a couple of those vaulted and holy blue ones.
Just take your time and learn how to do it right.
There's youtube and internet info available.

Hi,

Congrats on the new press. If you would like some electronic gadgetry to add to it, checkout my website:

http://pressmonitordevice.com

I sell a product that watches your press actions and let's you know if you get out of order (such as forgetting to rotate the shellplate which could lead to a double charge). It also has a press light and statistics such as RPH, etc.

My one reloading tip - before you put a bullet on any case look inside to check the powder level. You won't be able to tell if it is 5.6 or 5.7 grains, but you should be able to tell it if is none (squib) or double charged.

p.s. Get the strong mount and the aluminum roller handle.

Good luck!

Alan

Now that's cool! Thanks.

Picked up my first Boolits!!! :Heya: Yup, was at HnH and found myself perusing the reloading arena! (I had never done so) Looked for 9mm brass to no avail but found 9mm Boolits of the 147 grain variety. I wanted 115 but these will get me started I suppose.

If you need 9mm brass and will drive to Tuttle, I'll give you some. No need to ever buy 9mm, 38 spc. unless you just want to.

I will certainly do this. That is the one caliber I ordered dies for thus far. Thanks for the kind offer. PM inbound. Been sick lately so I will wait until my germs die off! :) Gotta love this forum.

I second the strong mount and roller handle

I have debated whether or not to order this but have not decided one way or another. Seems fairly study to me as it comes but may reconsider after some use. I have a nice strong bench to attach it to.

Well folks. I am on the road to reloading. I have now procured Bullets as referenced above. As well as the following from the wonderful J&K Bullet Casters LLC in OKC!!

1000 Small Pistol Primers
9mm Brass (I assume they need to be tumbled thus will procure a tumbler and media)
1 Pound of Winchester WST Ball Powder. (I had my mind set on Unique as mentioned above but J&K Mentioned this as being his favorite beginner reloader powder so I caved)

Thanks to those of you who have provided hints along the way. I Am learning all I can and am far away from actually creating a real bullet but will do so with your help.

My procurement list now demands:

Calipers
Tumbler thing
Scale (Not digital I think)
Book

Anything else? I have been advised to try the 550 as a single stage press at first. Now, I assume you do so by placing only one piece of brass in there at a time for each stage. So leaving the powder dispenser off at first you deprime all brass, then prime all brass, then add powder dispenser and powder all brass and flare the opening, then bullet in all brass and crimp then done? So using one stage at a time for all rounds to be made then.

My feeble workbench I built a few years back. I need to expand on the storage above the bench. Much work to be done!

I met you at J&K today. I do this same thing on my LnL when doing rifle loads. When you get used to it you'll be able to swing on that handle like a "drunk monkey".

If you get stumped, I'll help if I can.

Please use a scale to verify your loads.. If I could only have one extra item it would be a beam scale. I have loaded thousands of rounds weighing each charge on a beam scale. (Bench rest mostly..) but I set the powder measure with the beam scale and pull random samples during loading and weigh to make sure it is as I thought I set it.. Also, a really good book is Modern Reloading, bu Richard Lee. Buy it from Midwayusa.com as they have it cheaper than amazon by quite a bit. Good luck and welcome to the habit.. Blitzfike
