We haven’t been anywhere for 5 years. The virus, building and selling a house, etc has gotten in the way. Would like a cabin to chill for a few days. SE/E Oklahoma, hot springs Arkansas or something totally different. I’ll defer to you all’s that are up on this stuff and the best location, service, price etc

Taos, NM is my place of peace and tranquillity. Disregard any New Mexico rules regarding COVID because everyone else here has.

Good food, good people, incredible quietness, fly fishing, great climate and 8.5 hours from OKC including stops for gas and lunch.

I’m here with my gal right now and temps are 80’s by day, 40’s by night. The New Mexico fires are not an issue.Just search VRBO for an owner managed place. They’re not that expensive.

Good luck!

I took my wife to Gatlinburg, TN last year and we had a blast. Lots of places to see, there’s Dollywood and really great places to hike and see the countryside. The Great Smokey Mountains are amazing. I highly recommend it.

Me and the whole fam damily are FINALLY going to San Antonio this year. I got an old buddy who is an Alamo Ranger that has been trying to get me to come down there for years now. Finally gonna do it.

Probably stop at Waco to see the Texas Rangers HOF and museum on the way.

After a day or two in San Antone, we're gonna cruise on down to Corpus Christi to see the beach and the Selena museum. Both my girls are HUGE fans.

Wish me luck!

Good luck and enjoy the trip.
Traffic in San Antonio was S.L.O.W. as molasses years ago, with the excitement of what I call "cat drivers" thrown in. (Seems like anywhere a cat's head will fit, that cat thinks it can go and will jump right in there. People in S.A. drove that way last time I was there: if the nose of their car will fit, then damn the torpedoes they will pull right in front of you.)
I stopped in Waco probably 20 years ago and went to the Texas Ranger museum there, never saw so many Colt Pythons and 1911s, outside of the big show in Tulsa.
They had a bookstore with lots of Texas Ranger books. Some of those guys I had heard of, some not.
Wish I could remember the books I bought, had interesting stories in them (I liked reading about the Rangers in the first half of the 20th century, when they went from horseback to automobiles).

Subscribing to this thread to see where you old codgers go. I hate vacationing because other people are usually there too, but maybe you guys know some low traffic gems that I can force myself to go to, and I can keep the wife happy.
She loves people and travel. I just see sea after sea of problems.

Clayton Lake has a few cabins and the area is beautiful. If you want to rent an RV , Ron at Morningside Camp/RV east of Hanobia has a couple he rents out and They have a great little camp area with firepits ,BBQ grill's and other amenities. Not to mention Ron and His wife are great folks.
