TULSA, Okla. (KTUL) — A vandalism suspect who has been arrested for defacing several vehicles is accused of targeting veterans and active members of the military.
Tulsa police said the investigation into the targeted vandalism began a few days ago after a suspect was caught on camera messing with cars in apartment complex parking lot.
Investigators were able to identify Ammar El-Nasser with the help of members of the Tulsa Police Department's Riverside Division Street Crimes Unit.
Detectives who first started working this case said they initially believed these incidents were random acts of vandalism.
"The suspect would slash tires, key cars, put sugar in gas tanks, spray paint cars, damage license plates, and remove stickers from cars," Tulsa police said in a Facebook post.
When officers took a step back and looked at all the evidence, they found something in common with all the victims.

"Every car, about 7 right now, all had U.S. Military support markings on them," Tulsa police said. "Each car either had a license plate or a decal that indicated that someone was a veteran, active military, or a military supporter."
El-Nasseri did not give an official statement to police on why he chose the cars he vandalized.
Police said they believe there are other victims out there.
"Most of the crimes took place around 91st and Sheridan and potentially in Bixby as well," Tulsa police said. "We are working with the Bixby Police Department on related cases."
