I don't mean to bust out more science this forum will ignore, but it's due dilligence and I'm just wasting time until bedtime. In this particular case, vaping is statistically safer than smoking. CDC estimates there are 34-ish million smokers in the US. Just under half are currently living with a smoking related health issue. 1300 people die everyday directly caused by smoking. Just under 10% of those deaths are from second hand smoke exposure. CDC also estimates 9 million, other journals suggest 10-ish million vapers. 450 illnesses have been reported, 5 deaths are 'confirmed' vaping related although they haven't yet been able to prove the cause. There are leading theories that this could be the effects of inhaling atomized vitamin e, THC, cannabidiol oils, etc... but the science isn't complete yet. There are event specific papers to be published for peer review later this week. (google calcium overdose when you get time. Not at all related, but incredibly fascinating considering they put it in kid friendly candies and gummies that are easy to pop like candy) Vaping currently has a 0.045 incident ratio. That's a 0.0005 vape to death ratio. Smoking has a 0.47 incident ratio. A smoke to death ratio of 0.0141. The quick math would suggest smoking is roughly 28 times more dangerous than vaping... but that doesn't yet equate to vaping being 28.2 times better than smoking. Also, scientific due diligence is to be fair and balanced, those smoker numbers are skewed. We have cut way down on smoking over the last three decades. Fewer people are smoking, but those who have already quit are still suffering those consequences, but I can't find a source for that particular by-the-numbers breakdown. There's no argument to be had over the numbers. The science is incomplete, so it really can't be used to clear or condemn vaping yet. But statistics are statistics. Statistics also suggest that just owning a gun increases your odds of being shot 4.5 times higher just for owning a firearm. 5.5 times higher if you engage in self defense.
