The wounded officer was transported to Sentara RMH Medical Center for treatment, but then was transferred to University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville.</p><p></p><p>The officer was shot in the lower body, <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/virginia-police-officer-shot-during-attempt-catch-escaped-cow-n1261692" target="_blank">NBC News</a> reported.</p><p></p><p>The officer’s wounds were considered not-life-threatening and he was in stable condition in the hospital. <a href="https://www.whsv.com/2021/03/21/harrisonburg-officer-injured-investigating-animal-complaint/" target="_blank">WHSV</a> reported the officer was awake, alert, and in good spirits. </p><p>No other injuries were reported in connection with the incident, the Staunton News Leader reported.</p><p></p><p><strong>Police were investigating whether the officer was shot by another police officer or by one of the other people who were trying to stop the rampaging cow,</strong> NBC News reported.</p><p></p><p>The investigation is being conducted by the Harrisonburg Police Department’s Major Crimes Unit and is ongoing, WHSV reported. </p><p>The Harrisonburg Police Department said<strong> the erstwhile cow was euthanized because of the injuries the bovine sustained when the ranchers were trying to capture it</strong>, the Staunton News Leader reported.</p></blockquote><p></p>
