Saw this last weekend at the gun show.View attachment 346576
For information purposes, almost all commemorative guns like this can be bought with a C&R license. I think the TPD gun is on the list iirc.
They can be shipped to your door with the license.

Hey! I have the same one, but shorter. Does yours also have a number electro-penciled on the sideplate?

Yes it does, that’s a good looking 66. I ordered it from a police supply company about five or so years ago, I called them and they said it was the last one they had, I didn’t know it was marked until it arrived.

Did S&W mark them as part of deals with PDs? I wonder because almost all are marked in the same way on the left, between the cylinder and trigger.

(Except for the TPD example above)
I got one from my college right before I graduated. Got lucky with the timing as they retired them and sold to a local store. Marked in the "usual" way.

SW did mark many. Usually well engraved on the left lower part of frame. The also used to put them on the rear of the grip strap. My 38/44 Heavy Duty has its Austin PD on the grip frame. From my research SW used to charge a small fee then at some point offered it free. My 64-3 Marked DPD for Dallas PD was not marked by factory. It looks good but you can tell it was done by the PD armorer. I also have a 64-5 that is marked CYA for California Youth Authority that is marked in the left lower part of frame but was done by laser. Still very cool tho. Ill post a few pics later today.

Found a cool one today. Best I can tell is it’s a 69’ S&W model 60 no dash California Highway Patrol. I took it apart and gave it a good cleaning!
