He was ASKING for trouble, rather than riding through on the down low, if in fact he had to drive that street. He instigated this by showing up with a flag flying and that is likely why hes in jail. Had he been in a minivan going to pick up his kids, the turnout would have been different I imagine.

Tell that to the many people who have had their houses vandalized, signs stolen, and even beaten and threatened on their property by these commie thugs...if you don't go to the rally because you are scared, they ain't gonna leave you alone...they come find trouble. Look at them as North Korea or ISIS...the only thing they respond to is strength. They take advantage of weakness...this is the United States of America...nobody should fear for their lives for exercising the 1st amendment. Based on your past posts CHenry, I bet you agree with me if you re-think it some. Keeping your head down is easy but eventually they'll find you...the mistake is expecting fair treatment in a blue area. Get out of there and let it collapse...when I see the chaos in many of the large blue cities, I often wonder if the people who are victimized voted for the policies that led to it. I'd rather socialists & anarchists fight it out among one another than be doing it to people like that guy (who appears to be a Vietnam vet BTW). We need to build up the red areas and figuratively hold the ground we have. Let the commies destroy their own hoods and socialist corporate coffee establishments.

But to answer the question, yes, the victim's response was justified, appropriate & restrained. From what I gathered from reading the article though, he intentionally entered into a dangerous, lawless area. Yes. He had to draw. Completely justified. But he will face crippling legal fees now.
Agree mostly, but where did you see he entered into a public area available to anybody on any given day that was dangerous? Who sets that standard? In that situation he had the absolute right to be where he was.
Good news is that I was at a OK2A meeting Saturday. Don is addressing this situation. There is legislation in the pipe that will create immunity if one is on a public highway and blocked by protesters and you need to move. Civil immunity is involved as well as state immunity if its justified.

Here, but occasionally There.
He was justified, but that's Oregon. I wouldn't go there.

I'll take this a step further. That was Salem, Oregon, the state capitol. Salem, Portland, and Eugene areas seem to be the liberal enclaves, not the majority of the state. We lived in SW Oregon for 17 months and the folks down there are pretty conservative.

The problem is that this occurred in Salem, where the "powers that be" tend to be liberal. He probably wouldn't be in so much trouble if it had happened in other parts of the state.

Stopped his vehicle, exited the vehicle, confronted a crowd, then drew a gun when things didn’t go his way.

Maybe not illegal (they said he hasn’t been charged yet), but not something I’d classify as smart or rational.

When people start planting these communists, the communists will stop attacking and vandalizing law abiding people.

I'd like to think so, but Kyle Rittenhouse planted a couple, and now he's being taught a lesson; don't resist or we'll ruin you.
And the rioters still riot.

For crying out loud, he wasn't flying a Confederate flag, it was our nation's flag! A person should be able to drive down any street with the American flag without being assaulted or badgered by anyone. Those people that assaulted, sprayed him etc, don't realize how close they were to meeting an undertaker. The guy was ready to pull the trigger.

I didn't read every word, but it seemed like to me the guy was part of some kind of rally and the antifa bunch was waiting for them. By reading thread above it sounded to me like the guy was crashing their antifa party. I have more sympathy for the guy if it was the former.
