More than likely, the hunter dozed off, dropped it and then the buck showed up.
I was bow hunting a friends place many years ago, hadn't seen anything all morning. It was overcast, foggy and about noon decided to call it a day. Lowered bow down from ladder stand and turned around started down. Half way down heard a noise looked over shoulder, the biggest buck that I had seen in a couple years is standing 30 yds away looking at me needless to say he didn't hang around. The landowner next door got him the opening day of rifle season.
Pretty sure I figured that out to begin with, but I felt the buck needed some credit.
