I've always enjoyed father's day. Ya know, all my family around. Burgers and dogs sizzling on the grill. Silly father's day gifts. But I did get a cool gift this year. My son in law is a welder and he made me a flagpole. :w000t: Sounds like a super father's day so far, right? Well...exactly two years ago TO THE VERY DATE, JUNE 21st my father lost his fight with cancer. :cry3: Dad was diagnosed with prostate cancer about two years earlier (+/-) and did ok for about a year or so. But then it took a turn for the worst, and the dr. told him he could take all kinds of chemo and such that would extend his life a little bit further. Or, he could do nothing and just go home and ride it out for as long as possible. Dad went home and enjoyed what little time he had left. Dad's two passions in his life was his family and his gardens. He met my mother in 1958, when she was a carhop and he was just home from the navy. Mom and her little sister were being raised by her grandmother, who was very abusive, both verbally and physically. She always credited my father for saving their lives. They married in 1960 and also moved my aunt in with them. They raised three strapping young men, yours truly being the baby (and black sheep) of the trio. We lived a typical life in one of the best eras, the 70s/80s, and I thought he would be around forever. I miss you dad...and I love you.
