[QUOTE="Frederick, post: 4058497, member: 17825"] i suspect you're correct with this assessment. If it was a loss of power or some other situation and they surfaced, they would have probably been found by now. I suspect it was metal fatigue, going 2.5 miles down to the titanic and back, one tiny crack at that depth(3/4 the way to the Titanic, almost 2 miles) and you'll be vaporized instantly. Fortunately, short of being found floating on the surface in the next ~40 hours, that's the best case scenario. Didn't even have time to know what was happening before it was all over. nearly instantaneous. worst case scenario is sitting on the buttom of the ocean with no way back up, freezing as your oxygen slowly bleeds out. Second worst would be floating on the surface...with no oxygen. If they're sitting on the bottom, realistically there's nothing we can do to save them at this point. Hate to say it, but 85-90% chance they're dead by now, if not more. in my mind anyway. If the submarine is still intact on the buttom of the ocean, i wonder how well preserved their corpses would be. It's pretty simple, in my mind...the Ocean is vast. the area of search is the size of Ireland. Water is a very good absorber, so you can't really communicate at that depth. the only way would be a physical line. If it's surfaced, it's like trying to find a needle in a haystack. It's a white/blue vessel the size of a minivan floating somewhere in a vast, featureless ocean the size of Ireland. or alternatively, sitting lower in the ocean than very few vessels are capable of going...there's a reason it cost 250k to go down there...
