Gun cleaning is "zen time" for me. I enjoy it as much as shooting or reloading.

I do have a couple of 'working guns' that see a lot of abuse around the ranch. Those get enough love to keep them running like they're supposed to, but rarely much else.

The rest of my stuff gets disassembled, and a light coat of CLP on either a q-tip or paper towel until it comes off clean. It can take quite a bit of time, but that gives me the time to go over the gun with a fine-tooth comb looking for oxidation etc... The bores of my pistols are cleaned each time, but I do not clean my rifle bores until after hunting season.

Some people hate cleaning, and that is fine. I actually used to be like that as a kid with dad's guns...but then I got stuck working in our company armory. The Company and Battalion Commanders expected weapons that were q-tip (white glove) clean...and that got me on my current path.
