I have chased armadillo's into holes under leaf piles.
Some have an exit hole at the other end.

He’s in north central Nebraska. Badgers are quite a bit more common than armadillos up there.

I'm no help at all for critters up there.
But I've seen holes in yards in Oklahoma from moles or whatever, that looked like the varmint had some experience in coal mining somewhere.

We have some turtles which seem to make a nice sized hole in a couple of places on our fence row.

Good rains after filling hole? It may have settled and opened up an abandoned burrow.

Looks like fresh dirt around it which is why I think it's active again.

I don't think we have armadillos here. A BIT too far north.
I think prairie dogs are always more out in the open prairie. This is in a fairly heavily wooded lot.

We certainly do have badgers. And fox. And coyote. And ground hogs. And weasels.
There are lots of rabbits around but I dont see any fur around opening.

My buddy up here suspects groundhog.
