i had decided i did not need anymore rifles on AR designs. then Aero came out with the woodland monthly/limited one time run of uppers/lowers/handguard in woodland camo cerecoat (hope i spelled that finish correctly) and i just finished building an 18" 308 out of that batch. last month they had another finish i liked as well, but i resisted, they took the new product they did not sell and offered them as blemished build kits, they are not blems but new unblemished that didn't sell. sooooo,,,i bought a small frame ar15 magazine size kit. i get dealer pricing so got it for 100 bucks less than advertised "blem" price.

now i need to determine what caliber to build, i have 3-5.56, 2-7.65x39, 6-6.8spcII, and 3-308. i will not build a blackout or grendel, i require a muzzle velocity of 2700fps minimum, and may have to jump into wildcat country,,,don't really know if i want to do that. any suggestions on a standard caliber?

.243 WSSM is a screamer. @dennishoddy has one and all but talked me into making one myself. Just waiting on the winter months and it will get done.

I'm in your same boat. I posted a thread here awhile back about a new upper to build and just haven't found what I was looking for that I already didn't have that would cover those bases.
I subscribe to the FireArms Blog, and they had a new wildcat for the AR-15 platform that caught my eye.
.400 AR, shoots .40 grain/10mm bullets in a magazine that will allow double stack that fit the AR-15 mag well using a standard AR bolt.
Based on the 7.35X51mm case that is trimmed right below the neck giving a 1.7" case. This case uses the 7.62X39mm or 6.5mm Grendel bolts. It is a tapered case, not straight walled.
200 grain MZ bullets in .40 cal to hit 2312fps.
.40 cal hand gun bullets of 135 grain were travelling at 3042fps.
Not bad.

Check out Dedicated Technology. http://www.dtechuppers.com/

I built a 6mm DTI. It fits the AR 15 platform but can almost reach 243 Win ballistics. You have to reload, starting with a 6.8 SPC case necked down to 6mm. Mike has a deal with Hornady so you can get the dies from him with your order.

I have been completely satisfied with mine. Once I got the load dialed in, I have shot a 5 shot group at 100 yds measuring .184". It is a flat shooting round that I have taken varmints, coyotes and deer with.

If you will PM me with your email address, I can send you the reload charts so you get an idea of what you can get.

Keep in mind, the lighter bullets need a 1-10 twist, with the 80 grain and above a 1-8.
I have the 1-8, and when shooting the 55 grain, a 6" group at 200 yds is the norm. A 100 grain in the same barrel will cloverleaf a group.
