I have 2 friends that in their beginning of their adulthood, both went out and bought Winchester mod 70's

One went with a new in the box lightweight.

The other bought a used featherweight.

I think by the time they both turned 30, both of them sold the 270's saying they kicked too hard!
In their defense, a 270 in lightweight/featherweight rifle can buck and snort pretty bad. My parents gave me a Ruger Ultralite 270 in 1985, and that SOB is brutal. I killed over a hundred deer with before exploring other options. I still have the rifle and hope I never get so desperate I have to put it back into service.

We had a guy in deer camp that would pick up ammo, not matter where it was.
I had just returned to camp, unloaded my 7 Rem Mag and laid the cartridges on my tailgate. I watched him pick up my shells, as I put my rifle in the truck.

He glanced at the headstamps, "what in the h*** are you shooting?"

"The Ruger Universal Magnum."

He laid the shells back in the back on the tailgate, "make sure I never get any shells from you!"

The headstamps were:
.257 Wthby Mag
.270 Wthby Mag
.300 Win Mag
.300 Wthby Mag
.338 Win Mag
