Granddaughter had to have a Jeep. She drives it like she stole it. Her husband spends a lot of weekends working on it. She complains about the gas costs compared to the Honda she sold to buy the Jeep, but she refuses to sell it. My son, her Dad, her husband and I have tried to talk her into a Bronco, but she isn't interested, yet. Her Mom drove a Bronco and won't quit talking about it.

Wif had one of those mid-life crisis episodes, back in early '90s. She just had to have a Mazda Miata. For her birthday, I rented one for a week. She barely parked it, all weekend. Returned it on Friday and she never mentioned it, again.

I don't know if women have mid-life crisis or not, but my wife wants a new Jeep Wrangler. Just for driving around town, to work, etc. Kind of a "fun car" type thing.

I know nothing about them, big mistake or a great thing? Thoughts?
Consult Consumer Reports website before buying anything Jeep.
We had a Grand Cherokee. The used vehicle reliability rated it dead last for interior work. We had to have the dash removed three times to fix H&A servo's. The report of owners said the transmission would go out at 80K miles. Ours went out to the tune of $8K to have it replaced at 85K miles.
They said the engine would fail at 100K miles.
Ours went out at 100,300 miles on the way to OKC to trade it in for a new one. Threw a rod bearing.
Instant hammer in the engine.
Loved that vehicle. Seats were awesome and for a V8 got great mileage.

I love jeeps , I've had a dozen of them . none were good vehicles just know that it won't be a long lasting trouble free vehicle and you'll have problems to deal with. I've had so many jeep transmission problems the people at drive train specialist know me by name

I finally broke down and bought a Wrangler. I did a lot of research and wound up settling on a 2003 TJ (1997 - 2006).

Last of the 4.0L straight 6 engine. Spring suspension. Limited electronics.

It rides rough. It is noisy, the A/C doesn’t work and the seats are uncomfortable for taller people (like me). Mine doesn’t have tilt, cruise, or power anything other than steering.

I enjoy it when the weather is nice and it is a blast off road. I never put the top on it. I would not want it as my primary driver! I’m on my 4th 4 Runner.

If you’re going to buy an older one better check thoroughly for rust. Rust kills a lot of Jeeps.

Good luck!

Buy her one that she likes. Last year the wife found a 2019 4 door in blue. We went and looked at it and drove it home. She doesn’t ask for much at all, wanted one all her life, I try to give her whatever she wants. We even went on a few jeep rides last year. It’s a true cult if you go down the rabbit hole!
Regards,
