Haven't had them out here. In NC, they're like a green onion with a small bulb and have a garlic bite to them. Little stinky too but great in anything that needs onions.
They might be garlic...I get them in every year and used to think it was onions but figured out they were garlic.

We have two types, one with a flat greens and one with a round top green growing in the yard.
The flat tastes like garlic, and the round tastes like onion.
That's why I was asking about the size. Ours never gets over 6-8" tall. The bulb in the garlic is about the size of a pea.

This is just opposite of cultivated species.
