At 84 years of age and being on the road in smoke filled rooms I'm surprised his lungs have lasted this long.

He has had emphysema and pneumonia several times and years ago his doctors were telling him the pot was part of the problem. Not everyone that smokes even tobacco will get cancer so Willie not getting it is no surprise. Heck I smoked cigs for 40 years without getting it.
I smoked cigarettes for about half of my 41 years of smoking. Quit cigarettes for pipe smoking to make it a bit more tolerable for the wife. Still go clear lungs and no major health issues...
...well there is a bit of Arthritis on one knee.

yet, mom smoked for 40 years, quit for 25 or so and just no developed lung cancer.
