LAN = Local Area Network

We had 3 computers on a LAN for several years, using BNC cables & null terminators instead of a router.

It's the new stuff that escapes me.

Sounds like ArcNet.

As far as I know it's obsolete now except curiously, it still exists in the containment buildings of nuclear reactors because it less susceptible to noise from radiation than Ethernet.

LAN also gets you away from the internet for internal security of control systems.
