Looking for some Federal 38 Spl HST ammo for my little J Frame 442-1.

If you can't find that you might think about some Speer gold dot 135 gr. HP +P for short barrels....dang good ammo in my j- frame anyway.

Just looked and Midway has some Federal Hydra-Shok. That's supposed to be pretty good.

Can you shoot +P loads regularly in J-Frames? I always thought that J-Frames needed regular loads at range, then load +P for carry loads. Educate me. When I got my wife a 380 S&W, I took her J-frame and put a larger grip on it, used mainly as truck gun. It’s an older blued J-frame from late 70’s. Need some sound advise.

Those older ones aren't rated for +P. In that one I'd run 158 gr LRN for range use and Federal Gold Match 148 gr WC (wad cutter) for my defensive load. Someone else might come along and chime in on what they would do in this situation also.
