Understood. The NRA provides grant money to OKCGC for training events such as Women on Target. Not to mention, they provide excellent guidance for range design and safety, instructor certification, etc.
I have taken the NRA Range Officer training, as well as the USPSA training classes that were held out at OKCGC.

And even though I personally LOATHE the "women only" events, I did attend a Women on Target event. (And it was every bit as painful as I expected it to be. 🙄🙄) But anyway, the NRA does sink a LOT of money into OKCGC. We consider that membership fee to be just a part of our fee to OKCGC. Because they get back a whole lot more than we (the Gun Club members) pay in. 🤷

Thanks, yeah that phrase was the impetus for my question. I'd rather give OKCGC $500 bucks than give the NRA $45 or whatever it is. I'm just curious if anyone else had the same reservations as me and/or how accommodating OKCGC is. Happy shooting.
Likewise. Though the NRA has met one of my requirements to rejoin. Wayne LaPierre is gone.

Gun Club VP Mark Vaughan is now the 2nd Vice President of the NRA. 3rd highest position. Has been on the board for sometime and is considered a reformer.

But I have a few questions first. I looked through the website and new member booklet, as well as a light search on here, but didn't see anything I was looking for.

my questions are:

You pay your dues, and otherwise, unless competing in an event, you can show up whenever theyre open and shoot as much as you want without paying range fees, right?

On the shotgun range, do they provide throwers? Can you provide your own clays?

What ranges do they have, distance wise? specifically interested in rifle.

Do you feel the membership is worth the money?

When does the enrollment period start?

Do they allow you to pick up your brass/hulls?
Shoot all you want. No extra, unless it is a match.

Shotgun requires extra orientation. There are manual throwers.

You have to buys clays on the main shotgun areas.

Best range in this region.

Call the membership person.

You have to leave all your brass for me. Hulls you pick up. :)

I appreciate you guys input. And I don’t mind a slight derail, as I’m still getting my questions answered.

I saw on the website that an NRA membership is required… is that a hard rule? I can think of a lot of other organizations that I would rather give my money to other than the political lackeys who give away free made in China crap with your membership and spam your mail with scare pieces.

Why do they require so much information on the membership form, wanting to know my employer/spouse/kids and such?

Is there a magic response for the “what I bring to the club” questions? I’m pretty handy, And intend on helping out on work days, and want a membership because it makes sense economically and travel wise for me, I’m not an internet influencer or marksmanship instructor. I feel like just wanting to go shoot isn’t what they’re looking for with members?
Just tell them you are willing to do workdays.

Gun Club VP Mark Vaughn spearheaded the push to ban bumpstocks and binary triggers at OKCGC. After the courts decided it was unconstitutional to ban them outright. I was at the meeting.

I'm not saying that a private club can't decide how it's property is used, but I am saying this: If that's what a reformer is, I don't want it.

With friends like that, who needs enemies?

"Shall Not Be infringed" either means something, or it's just useless verbiage. I do not believe the Founding Fathers were in love with useless additional words. As far as I am concerned, it means exactly what it says. And every law restricting arms of any sort is an infringement and is not to be tolerated. Guns, knives, body armor, whatever. SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED!!!

I don't much care for the AR-platform guns. Bad experience in Basic Training with one malfunctioning. But I will not support any restrictions on them, nor anyone who is willing to restrict them.

I’m curious to know why they banned bump stocks and binary triggers at OKCGC. What was the primary reason discussed at the meeting? I suspect it was because of safety reasons.

Considering some of the actions I’ve observed by others, it’s probably not a bad idea. Someone set the benchrest range on fire a few years ago (shooting tracers which aren’t allowed), there was an AD that scored the wood bench and punched a hole through the steel post at the new plinking range, someone put shotgun slug holes in one of the skeet houses, someone damaged to the point of unusable as intended the steel pattern board at the shotgun range (used steel shot instead of lead shot), and the list goes on. The vast majority of members are very safety conscious and have a high degree of common sense. But, there are a few…
