The weak link in Semi-Auto pistols,,,
Is the magazines,,,
IMHO.

I'm currently in search of a few mags for a discontinued Taurus 25-PLY pistol,,,
Should the 2 mags I have now become defective for some reason,,,
My beloved little mouse gun becomes a single shot.

With it's tip-up barrel it's easier to load than other semi's,,,
But it's still a single-shot none-the-less.

I have a buddy with a beautiful vintage Beretta .22 pistol,,,
He inherited it from his grandmothers sock drawer,,,
Unfortunately he didn't find the magazine.

He finally found a well worn replacement on eBay,,,
But he had to pay a small fortune for it.

At my age I probably won't be buying anymore pistols of any type,,,
But if I were to buy another semi-auto,,,
I'll make sure I have 5 total mags,,,
A least five if not more.

Anyone else in the same situation as I find myself in,,,
On a hunt for an elusive magazine?

Ian at Forgotten Weapons had a video with a pretty decent explanation of why the magazines are the weak point in most firearms that use a box magazine. IIRC, it boils down to spending all the development money on the firearms themselves and not having sufficient money to develop the magazines, plus there’s very little profit in magazines, so there’s no incentive to develop them.

I must ask what is wearing out on the magazine?
How many rounds until it wears out?

Must be over well over 5000. My magazine in my most shot semi auto pistol is still like new.
Zero difference between it and a new one other than some black worn off of the painted parts.

I may not be able to wear them out, but I bet I can break them - especially if I'm not trying.
