Ok I have narrowed the list to a couple of scopes and would like to hear opinions on which is easier to range with. First is a Leupold MK4 4-14x50 with mil-dot (not FFP) M1 adjustment knobs Sencond is an IOR 4-14x50 with MP8 Dot (not FFP) each has side focus, 1/4 adj pretty much the same scope by different manufactures BUT different reticules.

What I'm after is what do the folks that have used the scopes think is easier to range with the mil-dots or MP8?

I would appreciate it if you didn't say take a look at xxxxx brand scopes just the ease or pain of ranging with the mil-dot or MP8, I'm pretty much stuck on these 2 scopes. Later,

I like the MP8-style over Leupold's Mil-dot scope if you're going to be doing any range-finding or precise hold-overs (you've got a lot more measurements there), but I'm starting to drink the MOA/MOA or Mil/Mil koolaid more and more since being schooled on Monday.

Well I just got my IOR 3-18x42 FFP with the MP-8 and I have to say I am extremely happy with it. I haven't shot it yet but I really like the hash marks over dots. I think you can be a lot more precise with it since in the main section of the reticle you have mil and .5mil and then at the edges the last mil is broken down into .25mils not dealing with dots. I don't know what magnification your dots will be accurate at I know at 3x with mine being ffp the reticle is pretty small. Assuming yours is accurate at 10x then the overall reticle is very good size and I like having a small center dot instead of actual crosshairs

So I am saying go with the IOR but you should really look to match mil/mil read EZ's long range rifle shoot report it is the perfect example why it is nice to have matching units.

I've got a MKIV 3.5x10x40 M3 TMR on my .308 It's a nice scope; but I will probably change it out to a NF 3.5x15x50 R1 MOA/MOA....I two NF scopes (my 7mm & .338) and I prefer them. Easier to deal with in the long run for me.
I also have Bushnell 4800 & 6500 Mil dot on both. The price was right and the glass is good; but I can't afford to swap all my scopes.

I'd like to step on up to the NF or a FFP but with a max budget I set at $1300 it's gonna be difficult to get there. I've been wondering about the mil mil adjusments I know it would save on some math in my head! I'll have to check the 2 scopes and see if that is offered but I think they are both 1/4 adjustments. Thanks for the opinions fella's! I keep going back to the IOR since it has that HUGE elevation adjustment knob but I wish it didn't have the illumination! I'll never use that and it would knock a couple hundred off the price. Later,

Well strait from the link you posted there is 70moa of elevation. And you know with that 10% back IOR runs 1350 (from Action Concepts on ebay, I verified that they were an authorized seller with Valdada) for 3-18x42 mil/mil FFP and no illuminated reticle Link. I see your in Norman if you wanna hold it, see it, and fondle it shoot me a pm.

I was talking about how many MOA in a revolution, like most are 15 MOA per turn, smell what I'm steppin' in? I saw at least 20 on the turret and there were more so I'm guessing at least 25 MOA per turn and that would be awesome! less stuff to wear out down the road.

I've been talking to Scott at Liberty Optics and his prices are pretty dang good not to mention a heck of a nice guy to deal with. StammesOpfer, dude I can't jump into that scope, $1795 and even with the 10% back I just can't talk myself into spending that much! the link to the scope I put up there I can get from Scott for $1150 and this poor boy can pull that off without breaking out the plastic just might have to wait another month but hey I don't like to pay interest and I'm stubborn :D. I wouldn't mind taking a look at the scope mainly to check out the elevation knob, where do you go to shoot at? I need to get out and work on some loads we might have to meet up. Later,
