Just got done reading the original transcript of Contact, by Carl Sagan. I found it in .pdf format on the web and turned out to be a really good book. Had spelling errors and grammatical errors so this copy had to be the one he submitted to be proof read to the author. At the end it had thank yous and even mentioned Ann Druyan as being his co author for the book back in 80-81. Druyan of course being his wife. Anyhow, I really enjoyed the book, much much different than the movie which I thought was equally good. I think they should do a remake of the movie but stick closer to the book this time. Sad that Carl died at such a young age. He was quite a brilliant man who had a lot to offer the science world.
Now to the question at hand. I am looking for another good scifi book to read. Read Enders Game before Contact, both on my iPad and am looking for something along the same line. Any good scifi books out there? Never have been much of a reader, but have found myself enjoying it, as long as the book can keep my attention. That has always been my problem, finding an interesting book, and finding the time to read it. Now it seams I have the time, so, any suggestions?? I have the Kindle app, as well as iBooks on my iPad, which is really handy. I can also view .pdfs which I have found particularly usefull in finding gun manuals, lawn mower parts lists, even A.R. Drone instructions. So, let me know what you think

Gor, the Counter-Earth, is the alternate-world setting for John Norman's Chronicles of Gor (sometimes called the Gorean Saga), a series of twenty-eight novels that combine philosophy, erotica, and science fiction.

I read all of these as a young teenager. I thought they were awesome! Kinda sexist, but totally cool!

Not really Science Fiction, but some of my favorites!!

Dr.Stephen Hawking:
A Brief History of Time
Stephen Hawking's Universe: The Cosmos Explained
The Grand Design
Black Holes and Time Warps: Einstein's Outrageous Legacy
The Theory Of Everything
The Universe in a Nutshell

God Created the Integers: The Mathematical Breakthroughs that Changed History...I LIKE THIS ONE!!!!!

Charles Darwin...The Origin of Species

Most books by Dr.David Suzuki

J. Robert Oppenheimer: And the American Century ...about the lead scientist who helped create the Atomic Bomb.

The Double Helix: A Personal Account of the Discovery of the Structure of DNA ...By Dr.James Watson...one of the pioneers who founded(along with Francis Crick) the DNA structure.

The Sermons of Martin Luther....English Translation

Sci/Fi

I really like Tony Hillerman....his books deal with Navajo Tribal police officers solving mystries on the Navajo Reservation. Its really neat because the characters are fictional BUT the places, stores, quick stops, roads, highways are real. Maybe because I lived out there and know a few of these places...Hmmm??

*****Don't know if you'll like this one*****....Hell's Angel: The Life and Times of Sonny Barger and the Hell's Angels Motorcycle Club...by the founder of the Oakland Hell's Angels...Sonny Barger. I got mine autographed a few years ago....but thats another story!!!!!:brick:

Goodluck!!!

Sci Fi is what I am looking for. History (forgive me) bores the heck out of me. What is the point if you know how it ends. Besides, most of that I had to read in school.
Hawking is not SciFi, it is more probable physics. I need a plot, don't care about sex in sci fi. Will look in to David Weber though.

I am a BIG Sci Fi movie fan, Star Trek, Star Wars, Starship Troopers (the original, the really did a bad job on 2 and 3) Contact is about my favorite "realistic" Science fiction movie. Avatar the best visual SciFi movie. I am really looking forward to TRON Legacy if nothing else but for the new tech in the CGI from the old TRON. The Day The Earth Stood Still (1951) Forbidden Planet (1956) When Worlds Collide (1951) This type of Sci Fi is what I am looking for. I have heard that When Worlds Collide was a better book, I may give that one a try. The Time Machine was pretty good, the 1960 version, even though it was kind of hammed up, the special effects where lousy, but that is what they had back then. The Machine in the 2002 Time Machine should be in the Smithsonian as a work of art. Just the glass work alone was amazing. The 2002 version was ok. The effects of the morelocks going into the sand was pretty masterfully done. Anyhow, that is what I am looking for. Going to look into When Worlds Collide. I hear the ending goes much more in depth from where the movie left off.

Check out John Ringo's 'A Hymn Before Battle'...and all the rest of his books.

If you liked Starship Troopers, have you checked out the rest of Robert Heinlein's books?

Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card.

It is either the most underrated or overrated book I have ever read, and I cannot figure out which one.

The Moon is a Harsh Mistress - Heinlein. It is a GREAT book. Technically, it is one of Heinlein's juvenile series. BALDERDASH! Great read.
