I don't know about an Amber Alert. I know those have to follow a certain set of circumstances. The mom is understandably scattered so I'm not asking too many questions. I'm going over at 2 when I get off to see if I can help look around in the area for a while.

That is correct, it has to meet certain criteria to have an Amber Alert issued.

UPDATE
I went over to the boy's house to touch base with his mother, Maria, and then proceeded to look around the area for an hour or so. I didn't really figure on finding anything that the police helicopter and ground officers could not, but I just felt like I needed to do something. I quickly realized that the task of locating a child in even a small area -- especially when you have no idea if he is even in the area -- becomes overwhelming and seemingly pointless very quickly.
After driving through my 2nd or 3rd QT parking lot it finally dawned on me to go back to my office and create a flyer that I could hand out to the convenience store workers on duty, so that's what I did. I also stuck copies of the flyer inside the front door of every church that I came across along the way. Hopefully these churches will make an announcement during their services. Even if no one knows anything, a bunch of people praying about it certainly couldn't hurt.
I emailed the .PDF file to Kinko's and they're running her 1,000 copies so they can start handing them out tomorrow morning.
Still hoping for the best for Maria and her family.
