I don't understand some people on unemployment, I am a certified welder and a couple years ago I worked for a company called Trinity Industries and I made just under $75k a year with all the OT. And when Oil went to over $100 a barrel, walking papers were given to alot of people, I was one of them. This happened on a Friday, and on the following Tuesday I had a job pending drug/background check. I took a job in a factory assembling valves, no experience with that and I was not hired to weld. That job started off at $12hr with no overtime, yes I took a BIG pay cut, but I could not see myself sitting on my ass while the taxpayers are paying my bills. I also was a Operations Manager at Crest Foods, and I personally have hired over 2,000 employees during my time with the company, I paid minimum wage, but it was a steady 40hr week job. So I don't wanna heay any crap about no Jobs out there, when its really, no jobs that you want to work

This... I work for a company that's always hiring, it may not be much but 10 bucks an hour for sitting on your rump 8 hours a day contributing to society is better than sitting on your rump for 8 hours a day dragging the rest of us down. Unemployment should be a hand-up, not a hand out. I have a buddy that expects to make 6 figures because he's got his degree, I've watched him bounce from temp job to temp job (max 1 year of employment) for just over 3 years now, all the while he's had two kids and his wife is working a ridiculous amount of overtime just to pay the mortgage, I called him about a week ago, since his last temp job was up and asked what he was doing (on unemployment mind you). He was playing video games... on the tax payer's dime.

As long as we keep extending unemployment benefits, people are not going to work. It is pretty simple. No free ride equals finding or making your own ride.

Key words right there. 2 years ago I was a roughneck, making 4k a month and sitting on top of the world. Now, i'm an unemployed bum living with my wifes parents sucking the unemployment tit. I'm out looking for work as often as I can be, usually three days a week. Have not had one single lead since August. Not one callback to any of my applications. And why would I go work at Wal-Mart for $250 every two weeks when I make $409 a week on unemployment? That is what unemployment is for, to find a similar paying job.

I have no idea what you're situation is, but I would think that being unemployed would allow you to search for a job more than just 3 days a week.

As for the second part, why?....because you have self-respect and a desire to provide for yourself rather than have others provide for you? Even if unemployment exists to allow you to find a similar paying job, it doesn't mean you have to wait around for one.

On the job hunt related note, the Norman PD is hiring.

If you have a good recession proof job, good for you. I am happy that you can provide for you and your family. But when that manager comes and hands you your pinkslip, and tells you that in order to keep the higher ups working they're going to have to lay you off (exactly what happened to me), you'll know exactly how it feels. It kills me every week to have to file for that unemployment check, but i'm damn sure glad to have it.

It's hard to understand until you've walked a mile in a broken down man's shoes. And until you have, I don't think you have any place talking that person down.

Ok well maybe someone in this great OSA family can help you with your job hunt. I am friends with several roughneck's and from what I understand, business is actually picking up and working alot more.
Where at in SE Oklahoma do you live? How far are you willing to travel? I

You guys are wasting your breath... You are talking to 1 person in MILLIONS that are satisfied & happy to sit around on their A$$ drawing unemployment!!!

Do you really think the government wants to put citizens back to work? If so, government would lock down the borders, round up & export all of the illegals, and stop issuing work permits to foreign exchange students that don't have to pay into Social Security, & unemployment.

Wake up sheeple.

NOSfed98z- If I were you, I'd pick up every side cash job mowing grass, roofing houses, hauling brush I could find.

Poteau. Will travel just about anywhere in OK, AR, LA and TX so long as it's 7on/7off. 6 months experience on an old school chain throwing rig with Bronco Drilling. Really would appreciate any leads you might have, Union Drilling told me they were probably sending some rigs out at the end of January but i'd go to work tomorrow if a job came up.

When I lost a job when the 80's oil bust hit I was laid off from flying H. I then went on unemployment for a couple weeks, looked hard and found a job making a lot less than my unemployment check but it felt a lot better. I started on the bottom with a new trade but it paid off in the long run.

You guys crack me up. I pay absolutely tons in taxes and I don't have this same level of resentment towards people on unemployment.

Geez, that's cause you make your living off the backs of people that need help. I've met very few attorneys that actually earn their worth. And that's saying quite a bit cause my son earned his law degree at OU. Just cause your an attorney doesn't mean much. 30 years ago it might have. Now lawyers are a dime a dozen. Kinda like illegal aliens doing yard work. Get off your self inflated high horse and come back down to earth.
