While obviously written by a dip stick, I guess if you put ratshot in your .22 it -is- a shotgun...

I'd consider a 12 gauge slug gun with a fully rifled barrel still a shotgun.
As long as the barrel is 18" or longer the ATF has granted their magical "sporting" purpose to this situation. By the letter of the law it would be a destructive device. A rifle with a bore >.50".
The law is funny right around there - unless it is specifically specified as DD all other shotguns are exempt; that's how they build legal 12/10/8 bore rifles.
