To own a .22 caliber, it is necessary to complete a Federal Firearms License application. WRONG WRONG WRONG. The application is available on its website. If a person is buying a .22 caliber at a gun show, for instance, the person should also fill out Form 4473. UNLESS YOU ARE BUYING FROM AN INDIVIDUAL You must submit this form to the AFT (Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives.)ONLY A LICENSED FFL CAN SUBMIT A 4473.

As long as the barrel is 18" or longer the ATF has granted their magical "sporting" purpose to this situation. By the letter of the law it would be a destructive device. A rifle with a bore >.50".

The law is funny right around there - unless it is specifically specified as DD all other shotguns are exempt; that's how they build legal 12/10/8 bore rifles.
