For 68 years, I have been proud to be an American. That doesn't mean that I have always agreed with all our policies, but having lived in many different countries, I am proud to be an American.

When I was younger I was very proud. Sometimes I still get a flash of pride but not like I used to.

I am more proud of being an OKIE.

I am proud to be an American, even when out government is dis functional and our policies are misguided. I may not agree with certain politicians but I will defend them to the end if threatened from the outside. The USA is still the best and baddest country on the face of the planet.

Although I am not always in agreement with what the government of this country chooses to do or participate in, even though I am VERY often upset with how our government and our citizens portray us in the global public eye and even though I despise the policies that are often implemented within our own boundaries...I have always and will always be "A Proud American".

I was raised this way and as I grew into adulthood CHOSE to be this way. I served my time although I was never called upon or put in a situation to bare the sacrifices many of my brothers in arms so generously gave for the freedoms we have enjoy throughout the years. I would say to others that if they aren't proud to live in this country or to be an active participant in our way of life, they should take a good hard look deep within. As mention by an earlier poster...I travel a lot. You see the world from a different vantage point a couple times and you may have a change of heart about the country that provides you the freedom to openly voice your disdain for it. As bad as it's getting, it's still the greatest nation on the planet.

That being said I'll hold by the statement "Love it or leave it"...Go somewhere that makes you proud to be there and assimilate to THEIR way of life. Remember this, Jamaica ain't so great for 95% of the residence. You know, the ones that live in the little shacks you see when you leave the resort as a tourist!

I think "proud" is a bit strong for me. Would I rather live somewhere else? No, not really. Am I proud of the last two decades of government? No. Am I proud of being lucky enough to be born here? Maybe. I guess I'm more proud that there are people risking their fortunes and lives to come to the place I had the great fortune to be born into. I find that to be a great honor that people will leave all that they know to come to seek a better life. My ancestors did it too.

Yes, but I'm not even remotely proud of our current government. I'm also wondering why I fully believe I will not be able to afford a decent retirement if I stay in the United States? Something's gotta give. :(

Of course I am but I am also disgusted with our leaders and most of the people that live here. They are the idiots that put these morons in office. Many of which have been there for more than 20 years.
