Price: $12,250 (I missed the "sale" when it was $12,000, but it's still $500 cheaper than comparables in OKC and Dallas)

Issues:
Spark plugs are 3k miles passed due

One headlight had pretty bad condensation (probably just needs some more sealant around the seals)

Windshield needs a fair sized rock chips repaired

Doc fee is $350, but average fee is $230 in OK according the Internet.

My plan: Ask for the spark plugs and headlight to be fixed. Also have the the doc fee reduced by half.

What would you ask for?

Tell them you'll pay 9k total. They can divide that 9k up into as many different types of fees that they would like.

You can find a better deal on Craigslist. 1 owner with maintenance records are things that I look for.

Everyone can give you negotiation advice but you're dealing with people at a dealership that spend all day figuring out different ways to make money negotiating with people like you.

Doc fees are totally a way for the dealership to make extra money.
Northcutt in Enid charges zero.
Toyota dealership in Tulsa charges $400 and they will tell you to walk if you don't pay it.
Get on the Internet to find your vehicle. Deal among dealerships and require email quotes.

Been down this road, all a game to these guys, used or new, doesn't matter, same deal, they just like number on top of numbers hoping to screw you up, go with Dennis's advise, start searching everyone you can within a area you are willing to travel to save the amount you want to save, if the dealer is worth their salt they will start talking about price and give you more ground so to speak, point is, stand your ground, they thrive off of pushing people around that don't know any better

After doing your homework offer what you are willing to pay including any fees. Not a penny more and walk if they say no. Another one and often better deal always comes along.

"Total Out the Door Price" ....those are the magic words to be used often (with dealerships)

Yes^^^^^ the dealerships are amazing. I visited a couple personally and was told that the vehicle I was looking for was in such demand that they had them sold before they hit the lot.

On the Internet, I saved 6 grand and got some great discounts.

I'm fine with the price given that it beats the next compatible option by $500 that I found in the OKC and Dallas areas.

I guess what I'm wanting to know is you all would accept the burden of fixing those issues since there are no qualms with the price. Maybe the price is so low because they know they intend to pass those issues onto the next buyer perhaps.

I would fight the doc fees to the extent I'd walk out the door.
There's no reason for them. As I've said, not all dealerships have them. That should give you a bargaining point.
Nortcutt in Enid has zero.
