Some people will act like you called their mother fat if you offer less. It's deeply personal. If something I want is listed too high I'll offer a little less. I've had people respond rudely over just offering 20 less to get the price down to lower than new.

I guess I just don't get emotional of prices, high or low. They're just numbers. The three things that can happen with any offer: accept, reject or counter.

Leave the emotion of it, price it to sell or be bought and move on.

I just have never heard of a variance in asking cash price and trade value for any products other than firearms. Can you imagine doing that with whataburger, houses or beer?

Oh well. Thanks all for da enlightenment.

Well first off, I rarely trade for Whataburger, houses or beer! LOL

It means different things to different people. I rarely post a cash vs. trade price. If someone offers me a trade I'm interested in and I don't need cash quickly, I may just swap once we agree on trade value. If I need cash and all I get is a trade offer, I'm going to have to determine how much I'll need to discount the trade item in order to get a quick sell on it. I've actually done that before and by discounting the traded item enough to make it attractive, it sells quickly for what I needed on the item I originally had for sale. That makes for three happy customers, myself and two others! In some cases, trade offers have come in too high for my comfort and I've had them post their item, sell it for what they wanted and buy mine. Same net result, three satisfied customers, it just took a little longer. Cheers! :)

how about : I ask $500 cash for a gun or $550 trade, you give me a gun that you claim is worth $300 plus $250 cash. I'm not much better off than before cause now I gotta get rid of the trade gun.
I end up selling it for $250 quick since rent is already past due. The time and effort and possible loss call for a higher trade price unless its something you really ,really want.

I think it's because a lot of folks feel that prices listed are "inflated", so if they list a higher trade price, then they're more like to get a trade that is in line with what they feel their gun's value is... i.e., "if you're gonna overprice your gun, I'm gonna overprice mine to match it in trade". That's my thought on the matter...

I think my Taurus PT145 has a value of $500. It's fired every single round I've ever put in it, to the best of my knowledge, which puts its value well over some higher-priced firearms listed here. :D But I could maybe trade it for something someone has listed at $400 cash.

Not really... I have no desire to trade my little cheap, accurate and reliable gun. :D
