Should have told them he was going to record this for his protection and then request each officer to identify themselves and their badge numbers. Tell them he will need the information when he calls his dad and a lawyer. Ask if he's being detained against his will and is he allowed to leave and/or call a lawyer before he answers any questions.
Learn young.
Yes. In Oklahoma, it's only a one party consent to record a conversation.

Would you please define, "these same folks." I know from your past posts that you are not a fan of public schools. Therefore, I may be making an assumption about who you are referring to about supporting anti-American groups.

That isn't quite correct - I am in favor of public schools, to the extent that they perform the very useful function of educating many youth who would otherwise have little to no chance of getting a decent education and thus be at a great disadvantage seeking jobs, higher eduction, etc. However, I also freely advocate that parents where able should be encouraged, not discouraged, from considering and taking advantage of other options like home schooling, parochial schooling, etc.

I am incensed by "school advocates" who pose the false dilemma that to support home-schooling or parochial school is to oppose or harm public schooling (which by the way is, effectively, the position of most major American city teacher's organizations). I also strongly oppose much of the non-educational (i.e., other than readin', writin', 'rithmatic) but rather social indoctrination activities that schools, especially public schools, seem to conduct with increasing regularity and stridency.

I hope I have clarified my position on public schools. I am a product of both systems by the way - I went to a mix of Catholic and Public schools in NYC. My high school Stuyvesant High School, was one of the first of what now would be called magnet schools and I favor such schools - within the limits described.

I grew up going to church, I worked on farms with my Grandpa, father and uncle, and I played sports in school. I did not need a school system to teach me values, ethics, or morals. In our current society with single mothers, divorced parents, dual working households, the internet, video games, music, and secularism the only place many kids learn anything positive is at school. I do not agree with using a school system for social engineering, but I think it is unavoidable at this point. I think that parents and community members need to get involved in their local school systems to monitor and influence the system.

I agree with you, I would rather teach some history, explain how philosophy and The Enlightenment influences our system of government, and how our economic system makes us free.

I think their intentions do directly influence the questioning of a student in that school.

Do you mean because of their codified policy to look the other way when crimes are committed by students? That would depend on state law in FL. In OK, that would not affect the fact that is was a custodial interview/interrogation by a sworn and commissioned LEO.

Our resource officers actually work for the district, I wonder if that changes how the court would see their actions, as part of the school or as the police. We were actually discussing this issue if I became a reserve officer for the school, so I could carry in the school, am I cop or a teacher?

If you're a sworn, commissioned LEO, you are first and foremost a LEO. You are duty bound to act upon observing a crime being committed, or gain knowledge of a felony crime committed not in your presence. Even if that "act" is to observe and report.

Yes. In Oklahoma, it's only a one party consent to record a conversation.

FL is a two party consent state, therefore the cops could legally tell him he couldn't record.

Keep in mind it's your responsibility to know the laws in your state. LE can legally lie to you, but you can't legally lie to LE. :(

You are trying to argue a point with me that I agree with you about, but I am saying that the law is one thing and reality is another.

Had this been me I would have told them to kiss my rear and got up and walked out. I’ve actually done that before back when I was in school. But I’m pretty head strong and don’t get pressured easily. If I was this kids dad I would be all over those suckers. No excuse in what they did. They are just picking on him because he isn’t an anti gun left leaning piece of crap. And it seems that school is full of that type.

I would say that I agree with you about he school having multiple issues, and they are not improving. If I was the kid's father, I would have talked to the administration to find out exactly what happened and why. I would have then went to the sheriff's office and found out what happened an why. I think at some point, I would have demanded an apology from someone to my son, directly. However, getting up and walking out would not have ended well for the young man.
