I have both a Colt Gov't Model in 9mm and a Colt Lightweight Commander in .45 ACP. I'm interested in a .22 conversion kit; anyone know much about these and have any to stay away from or look at?

I have a couple of the Kimber conversion kits. They work well with the right ammo, which for me has been the Remington Viper truncated cone (which I believe are no longer made.) I seem to recall I also had decent luck with the CCI stingers.

Check out Marvel Precision and Nelson Custom both were designed by Bob Marvel. I have a Marvel Unit 2 and it's been reliable, I've run mostly CCI MM through it and use Colt Ace magazines. The conversion built by Nelson is supposed to be an improved version of the original design by Bob.

CDNN Sports has the Sig Sauer 1911 kit on sale for $149.99: you can call Sig customer service before you buy to see if compatible with your Colt

I have have the Sig Conversion kits for my P series pistols; very accurate, Not ammo sensitive, I even use Remington Thunderbolt, have some issues with the P220 magazine.
http://store.sigsauer.com/1911-22-rimfire-conversion-kit.html

I have a 1911 .22lr Kimber conversion, excellent kit, ammo sensitive, doesn't like certain 36 grain standard velocity; Very accurate, fun to shoot -- Retail is $339, I bought mine used.
http://store.kimberamerica.com/handguns/1911/rimfire-conversion-kits

I also have several Advantage Arms for my Glocks ( they have 1911 kits); I bought mine all used, excellent kit, Instructions give what ammunition to use for best results -- Only have experience with the Glock kits.

I have a Tactical Solution .22lr for Glock 17/22, ( they have 1911 kits, Not Cheap) I bought my kit used, had some issues, kit didn't come with all the parts, recoil rod was missing a part -- Ebay -- Got it for a cheap price, Tac Solutions customer service, second to none, best I have talk to. Got the parts I needed, and the gun up and running.

Ammunition is the biggest problem, consistency isn't always the same -- best .22lr i have found was German Ammunition Geco, very pricy stuff, around $5 for 50 -- works great in everything I have, the next trouble area is the magazine -- spring pressure, angle, advantage arms guarantees there magazines.

This is a lot of info to digest, full retail price, is a whole lot of money, I like the used market.

Good luck on your search!

I checked out that Sig Sauer Kit at CDNN Sports; it appears to me that it is the same as the GSG kit in Sig clothing. I had a GSG 1911-22 an it was an excellent shooter. I mean a tack driver of a pistol. BUT, the upper was made from some really soft metal, a zinc alloy I believe, and it sure wore quickly. I think I'll do as you suggested and search for a better quality all steel kit. Thanks.

Interesting information. I ran across one of the Sig 22/45s and practice with it. so far it shoots anything. Full sized and almost the same weight. Do not have to replace parts to engage or disengage.

Is this the Sig 1911-22? Looks like a regular 1911 but is .22LR caliber?
